Firetec Systems India

A steel systems manufacturer, working to what the reports say

Firetec Systems India makes cold-rolled steel profile systems for fire rated and bullet resistant glazing — the Indian analogue of what Forster and Jansen do in Switzerland, developed against Indian codes and for Indian projects.

Introduction

Three product lines. FT-PD is fire rated doors and partitions; FT-CW is fire rated curtain wall; BR-Shield is a bullet resistant system: a steel frame with glass in it. All three are built from one family of cold-rolled steel profiles, which is why a project can carry a single specification from the facade through the core walls to a teller line, with one fabricator and one set of details.

Cold-rolled galvanised steel rather than a proprietary composite is the decision everything else follows from. A fabricator can cut, weld and glaze it with the equipment already in the shop. A specifier can read the section. And when a system has to be justified to a fire consultant, the argument is about a material with a hundred years of behaviour behind it rather than about a formulation.

The same FT-CW mullion and transom junction rendered in a dark finish, the glazing running out to both sides of the steel cross.

How we work

Three things that decide everything else

Not a mission statement. Three positions that a specifier can check us against, and hold us to.

01

We publish the number the report records

Where marketing material and a test report disagree, this site prints the report — and where two sources disagree with each other, it prints both and says so. There are unresolved figures flagged across these pages. That is not an oversight left visible; it is the alternative to picking one and hoping.

02

The systems are developed against Indian codes, not adapted to them

The National Building Code is how public work in India is specified. A system designed against it from the start is a shorter route through a tender than a European one with a compliance argument bolted on.

03

Made in India, for delivery as much as for cost

A bullet resistant panel is heavy and a curtain wall run is bulky. Manufacture in Maharashtra is a lead-time argument before it is a price one, and on a programme that is usually what decides it.

Steel, made in house

The profiles are not bought in

Firetec Systems India manufactures its own cold-rolled steel profile systems. One steel system runs under all three ranges, so the fire and ballistic systems share a profile family rather than being assembled from parts made elsewhere.

System ranges on one steel system

1

Cold-rolled steel profile family

One steel system under fire and ballistic systems alike.

A fire rated or bullet resistant assembly is a pairing, not a product. The pane and the frame have to fail later than the fire strategy needs them to, and they have to do it together — an intumescent laminate that expands against a rebate the frame does not have, or a bullet resistant pane in a frame that lets it out of the opening, is a system that passed two component tests and fails as an assembly.

Because Firetec makes the steel, the profile is designed around the assembly it has to hold rather than adapted from a general-purpose section. A change to a rebate, a gasket seat or a fixing is a decision taken in house, not a specification handed to a separate vendor and re-tested against a moving target.

Built for the way Indian public work is specified

Public work in India is specified against the National Building Code, which decides what can be tendered — and a facade system developed against it is a shorter route through procurement than one that was not.

Firetec develops the FT-PD and FT-CW systems against the National Building Code. It matters to a government specifier, which is why it is set out here plainly rather than reduced to a compliance line.

What is not in doubt is where the test work was done. Both fire systems were tested in India, at NABL-accredited laboratories covered by ILAC, and both ballistic trials were run at Indian government laboratories — one of them DRDO. For a consultant assembling a compliance file, reports from Indian laboratories against Indian and British standards are a shorter conversation than a European certificate and a letter of equivalence.

Make in India

Manufacture, and where it stands

Manufacture is planned in Mumbai, under the Make in India initiative.

A roll-forming line in a production hall, steel strip running through the stands with an operator alongside.

Firetec’s own wording is that it “has initiated the plan to start” manufacturing there. Whether the line is running yet, or is still being set up, has not been confirmed. Because a tender can turn on whether a maker is producing today, this page keeps to the planned tense until that is confirmed.

What manufacture in India buys a project is mostly time. A bullet resistant panel is heavy and a curtain wall run is bulky, so an imported system spends weeks in transit and customs before anybody can install it — and a variation on site means starting that clock again. Domestic manufacture turns a programme risk into a phone call.

Three system lines

What we make

A pair of glazed doors in a slim dark steel frame with push bars and overhead closers, set in a glazed screen that continues along a concrete lobby wall.

FT-PD

Fire Rated Doors & Partitions

E120EI30EW120

Steel framing for building entrances, lift lobbies, server rooms and corridors. A two-hour fire rating - 120 minutes integrity and 120 minutes radiation control - classified E120 / EI30 / EW120.

A multi-storey curtain wall facade in a slim dark steel grid seen at a raking angle from ground level, regular glazed bays running the full height of the elevation with an overcast sky reflected across them.

FT-CW

Fire Rated Curtain Wall

E120EI30EW120

Mullion and transom curtain wall on a slim 45-60 mm face. The curtain wall was intact on both faces at the end of a two-hour test.

The corner of a thick multi-ply laminated glass panel held in a dark steel frame, the exposed edge showing the stack of glass plies and interlayers.

BR-Shield

Bullet Resistant Systems

BR6FB6

Cold-rolled steel systems with glass in the system, as door systems, fixed partitions and cap curtain wall. Tested to EN 1063 BR6 and EN 1522 FB6 - partial compliance.
